  • What belt widths do you typically work with?

    • Belts are available in any width (although not all patterns are available in all widths), straight strip or tapered to fit any buckle.  However, our typical sizes are from 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches in 1/8 inch increments.

  • How do I measure myself to get the right length belt?

    • Since your belt is custom made especially for you from start to finish by a single craftsperson, measurements are critical and Caballo cannot assume responsibility for errors in your measurements.

      • Men: Pants size or actual measurement over your waistband of clothes with which you will be wearing your new Caballo Belt. Please specify whether the measurements are pants size or actual inches.

      • Women: Actual measurements over clothes and in the position you will be wearing your belt (i.e. around your waist or around your hips).

  • What is a ranger style belt?

    • A ranger belt's advantage is that it is a wider belt that allows for a smaller buckle; however, it puts four layers of leather at the buckle location and costs an extra $25.00 to make.

This is done by sewing narrower pieces to the outside of the wider portion of the belt.  The narrow portions of the belt will overlap the wider part of the belt and will hold the buckle.

  • Why would you use a tapered end on the belt?

    • Another option for having a wider belt with a smaller buckle is to taper the ends of the belt. There is no extra charge for tapered belts.

  • What are the different types of buckles and buckle measurements?

    • It would be better if you shipped your buckle to us; this would allow us the opportunity to hand make your belt to very specific measurements. However, if this is not feasible, then the following measurements need to be taken and provided to us:

      • Width: This is the width of the opening through which the belt will pass.  This value is needed if you want a 1" belt, but your buckle is 3/4" wide.  This indicates that you need a tapered belt (or, if you prefer, a ranger style belt).

      • Length: On a standard dress buckle this measurement will be the opening in the buckle, or the length of the tongue.  On a trophy style or solid buckle, this measurement will be the distance from the loop (where the belt attaches) to the tang (prong which goes thru the hole in the belt).
